My Reply to August Richardson of Hilton Hotels Regarding Levy Family Situation | August 6, 2021

Home » My Reply to August Richardson of Hilton Hotels Regarding Levy Family Situation | August 6, 2021

Mr. August Richardson, General Manager of Homewood Suites by Hilton,

Thank you for your quick response to my letter. After I sent my letter to you, nearly 300 working people also wrote to you in solidarity with David and Lakesha Levy, urging the Hilton to cancel the Levy family’s Covid rental debt. I really appreciate that you have immediately responded to this community outpouring by informing my office that the Levy family’s debt is cancelled!

I hope this is a positive example that other corporations will follow, and a sign of how ordinary people can raise their collective voice to cancel Covid rental debt on a larger scale.

As I noted in my email, I have little doubt that other working-class families who stayed at the Homewood Suites and other hotels managed by the Hilton during the pandemic have similarly accumulated significant Covid debt through no fault of their own. Hilton Worldwide, as a highly profitable global corporation, can afford to cancel their debt as well. I hope you and the other executives will follow up your positive action today by also cancelling the Covid rental debt of your other struggling current and former tenants.

Thank you again for your prompt attention to my letter and the Levy family’s Covid debt. My office is happy to work with you and others at Hilton Worldwide to ensure that other working-class families receive similar treatment. I look forward to your reply.

Sincerely,

Kshama Sawant
