Budget Chair Mosqueda underscores urgency around ‘health of our economy and community’
Councilmember Teresa Mosqueda (Position 8 – Citywide), Chair of the Select Budget Committee, released the following statement in response to this morning’s revenue forecast:
“Today’s Revenue Forecast Council release gives me cautious optimism for the 2024 budget. We know there are many competing needs in the city as many of the hardships that our community was experiencing 12 months ago continue today, and in some cases greater instability has worsened due to inflation, increased costs, and expiring COVID-relief.
“Today’s forecast will provide a small window of relief for investments I was already hoping to prioritize in the budget, like our city contracts, support for our frontline workers, access to basic needs like food and housing, and investments to help make our community healthier and infrastructure safer.
“As Budget Chair, my priorities will be to maintain our commitments from prior years, center equity by rejecting austerity, continue to target vital revenue like JumpStart, and ensure investments in core government programs and services that grow the health of our economy and community.”
