Seattle joins regional and global movement to ban single-use plastic bags

Today Seattle City Council introduced Council Bill 117345, intended to help clean up Puget Sound and protect marine wildlife by banning single-use plastic bags. This legislation gives Seattle an opportunity to join Bellingham and Edmonds in Washington, as well as cities up and down the West Coast and more than 20 nations worldwide in efforts to curb the impact of single-use plastic bags on the environment.

City of Seattle signs agreement with State on SR 520 project

The Seattle City Council and Mayor McGinn completed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) that will help protect the City's interests on the SR 520 bridge replacement project. This MOU, unanimously passed as Council Bill 117303, expresses the intention of the City of Seattle and the State of Washington to work collaboratively.

Mayor Mike McGinn and City Councilmember Sally Bagshaw today announced recommendations for community center operations in the City's 2012 budget, based on a data-driven analysis and process to examine several models for staffing and operating community centers. These recommendations reflect a savings of $1.23 million in staff and operating reductions and will be included in the mayor's proposed 2012 City budget.
