Today, Councilmember Maritza Rivera (District 4), issued the following statement supporting Mayor Katie Wilson’s proactive measures to prepare the city for the possibility of increased Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) activity.

“The Federal Administration is not only acting with brutality, but I believe it is also acting outside constitutional law. When our own government operates outside the bounds of the constitution and outside the bounds of human decency, cities and states must band together to protect our residents, provide leadership, and maintain calm.

 “Seattle is depending on us to be unified and determined. I support Mayor Wilson’s efforts to keep Seattle residents informed and to ensure that City departments will be trained on how to safely respond to enforcement activity.”
