City Councilmember Maritza Rivera (District 4) released this statement tonight after the tragedy in Minnesota:

“I want to express my deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of Minnesota State Senator Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark, and to the people of Minnesota who are reeling after the targeted and politically motivated assassination of her and her husband, and the attempted assassination of State Senator John A. Hoffman and his wife Yvette.

Today children were orphaned, two elected leaders are left suffering in a hospital, and families and friends are crushed with sadness by the actions of a gunman’s twisted beliefs. I hope you will join me in holding the people of Minnesota in your heart tonight.”
