The Seattle City Council voted today to appoint Mark A. Solomon to fill the vacant position on the Council, representing District 2, which encompasses south Seattle. After five rounds of voting, Solomon received the necessary five vote majority for the appointment.
“I want to express my deep gratitude to this Council for their trust,” new Councilmember Mark Solomon (District 2). “I’m really all about serving this community, getting things done, and working with the Council to make life better for the City of Seattle and the residents of District 2.”
“I want to congratulate and welcome Councilmember Mark Soloman to the City Council. We came to this difficult and important decision based on our interviews with the candidates and District 2 community members. We’ve now completed the process and we’re ready to get to work,” said Council President Sara Nelson (Position 9).
Councilmember Solomon will serve District 2, which includes Beacon Hill, Rainier Valley, Chinatown-International District, Columbia City, Mount Baker, Yesler Terrace, and Rainier Beach. The position was formerly held by Tammy Morales, who resigned, effective Jan. 6.
The appointment begins immediately. It will last until November 2025, when voters will elect someone to serve the remainder of the position through 2027. Official committee assignments will be confirmed in early February.
