Seattle Councilmember Rivera Issues Statement on Garfield High School Shooting

Seattle City Councilmember Maritza Rivera issued the following statement in the wake of the shooting at Garfield High School:

“I am saddened to hear about another school shooting in our city.

My heart goes out to the students and staff at Garfield, and especially to the family of the child who was killed.

I have been that parent, rushing to school – panicked and terrified – after a shooting.  Words cannot describe the feeling. It’s beyond heartbreaking.

We must find ways to keep our kids safe.

If you’re a parent, hug your kids tight, and keep all our kids in your heart.”
