Congratulations to Tanya Woo, Seattle’s Newest Council Member

This text originally appeared in Seattle City Councilmember Maritza Rivera’s newsletter.

I want to congratulate Tanya Woo on her appointment to the Seattle City Council today. I am confident in her ability to fill the role and thrilled that she was appointed.

I believe that Tanya Woo has the experience to hit the ground running on day one.

I got to know Tanya on the campaign trail and know her to be a team player who is hard working, community focused, and solutions oriented.

She has experience in small business, has been involved in the creation of affordable housing, and has been a leader in community-based public safety programs. Tanya has shown that she understands the issues facing Seattle.

This last fall, the voters showed that they want to see collaboration, accountability, and a pragmatic approach to solving the city’s toughest challenges. These are also the values of the constituents I spoke with in District 4. It’s for these reasons that I supported Tanya.

There were many great candidates for this position, with varied skill sets and experience. I want to thank them all for their willingness to serve our city. I also want to assure the candidates, and the public at large, that there was a rigorous and fair review of all those who applied.

I look forward to working with Tanya and all the candidates in their various public service roles in Seattle.

Sincerely,

Councilmember Maritza Rivera
