Background

Councilmember Mosqueda resigned her seat on the Seattle City Council, effective January 2, 2024, to take a seat on the King County Council, leaving a vacancy on the Seattle City Council starting January 3, 2024.

Public Forum

In accordance with Ordinance 125479, the Council will choose a community entity, who will convene a public forum. Eighteen organizations submitted recommendations and feedback about the Council Vacancy process. Two organizations applied to be considered to host that forum: Seattle CityClub and Transit Riders Union.

Next Steps

The Seattle City Council will host a special meeting tomorrow, January 12. During that meeting, they are scheduled to hear public comment, decide on hosting duties for the public forum, and select the finalists for Position 8 on the Council.
