Council President Debora Juarez Denounces Behavior as “Unacceptable”
Seattle, WA – Council PresidentDebora Juarez (District 5 – North Seattle) issued the following statement in response to reports about the Seattle Police Department’s response to ‘disturbing incidents’ at her home:
Today I spoke with Chief Adrian Diaz and discussed the patently unacceptable behavior directed towards Councilmember Kshama Sawant.
I was assured that SPD is conducting an investigation regarding the incidents at her home, and will continue to monitor developments.
I’m saddened and disappointed that this behavior has become commonplace.
I also spoke with Councilmember Sawant. I offered my concern and assurances that we will work with the Chief and SPD to be sure Councilmember Sawant, and my colleagues, are safe at home and at work.
People in the public sector in particular are at an increased risk of exposure in the usual course of business. The safety of all Seattleites is – and should be – our top priority.
This is not political speech. This is hate. Politics aside, we should see the humanity in each other.
