SEATTLE – Councilmember Teresa Mosqueda (Position 8, Citywide) issued the following statement after today’s legal victory for JumpStart Seattle, the progressive payroll tax she championed, when it was upheld as valid by the Washington State Court of Appeals

“Thanks to the City’s legal team and the broad coalition of businesses, labor unions, community-based organizations, affordable housing advocates, environmental groups, immigrant rights activists, and more – all who built JumpStart Seattle – our progressive payroll tax continues to be the law of the land. We’ll continue investments in affordable housing, equitable development, the city’s Green New Deal, economic resilience, and workforce development to help build a stronger, healthier, and more economically diverse Seattle.

JumpStart has been – and thanks to today’s victory – will continue to be, one of Seattle’s biggest tools to address our city’s most urgent problems.”
