Councilmember Teresa Mosqueda (Position 8, Citywide), Chair of Council’s Housing, Health, Energy and Workers’ Rights Committee, made the following announcement after the birth of her first child earlier today:

“I’m thrilled to share the good news: Camila Elena Valdes-Mosqueda was born on October 9 and is happy and healthy. Camila and I are doing well thanks to the support of the proud papa and amazing care team made up of the union medical staff at Swedish Hospital and Kaiser. As we recover and welcome our little one into the world, I will be taking the next 12 weeks off as I hope all birthing parents and birthing partners are now able to do anytime within the first twelve months, thanks to the new State Paid Family and Medical Leave Act. I am thankful to the incredibly talented team in my office who will continue advancing our city values and priorities, and meeting with you in the three months while I am on leave.

“Many of you have sent well wishes and advice through my pregnancy. Thank you again for your notes and support. I’ll be back early next year, and rest assured the incredible office that makes up #TeamTeresa is still working hard for you during this budget season and beyond.”
