Councilmember Teresa Mosqueda (Position 8, Citywide), Chair of Council’s Housing, Health, Energy and Workers’ Rights Committee, issued the following statement in response to the Seattle Planning Commission’s report, titled “Neighborhoods for All: Expanding housing opportunity in Seattle’s single-family zones” which was released to the public earlier today:

“With a significant amount of our City being zoned as single-family, we must make swift changes to ensure we both promote additional housing and development while maintaining our green spaces and promoting our small businesses. I look forward to working with my council colleagues, the housing community, and those at growing risk of displacement due to the lack of affordable housing to continue to build housing, push for creative policy solutions to support affordability, and by doing so promote livability in our City,” Mosqueda said. “Today’s report provides a blueprint for what must change in order for us to address the housing crisis with the urgency it deserves.”
