Sound Transit Board Member Councilmember Rob Johnson (District 4, Northeast Seattle) issued the following statement after Congress approved $100 million to support Sound Transit’s Lynnwood Link Extension, and $50 million for the Seattle Center City Streetcar Connector, both which were slated to be slashed in President Trump’s proposed budget:
“I didn’t expect I’d be saying this in 2017, but: Thank you, Congress!
“Lynnwood Link will make it possible for riders to get from the University of Washington to Lynnwood in 20 minutes. I hate to break it to drivers, but traffic on I-5 isn’t going to improve anytime soon, which is what makes the approval of these funds such great news.
“While there are many people responsible for the securing of these funds, I hope Seattleites know what kind of transit champion they have in Senator Patty Murray, who serves on the Senate’s Appropriations Committee. Thank you, Senator Murray.”
