SEATTLE – Councilmember Kshama Sawant, as an elected public servant and member of the American Federation of Teachers, stands in solidarity with the members of the Seattle Education Association who are on strike for reasonable compensation, an end to out of control high-stakes testing, caseload limits in special education, and equity teams to address racial bias in school discipline and policy.

“Seattle’s educators are talented and hardworking people who have tirelessly led the fight to defend students and education. They always put the interests of students front and center, and we, as a community, must support them to ensure the administration of Seattle Public Schools yields them an excellent contract,” Councilmember Sawant said.

“Please join me and the Coalition for the Schools Seattle Deserves at the community meeting tomorrow, Thursday, at 6 p.m. in City Hall Council Chambers.  Let’s discuss how to build solidarity for our educators. We will make sure they and the district know that Seattle strongly supports the union’s fight for high quality public education for all of the city’s young people,” she added.
