Council President Burgess’ Statement on Seattle Public Schools Decision to Operate Seattle Preschool Program Classrooms

SEATTLECouncil President Tim Burgess issued the following statement in response to the decision of the Seattle Public Schools Board of Directors to operate three classrooms in the Seattle Preschool Program:

“The School Board recognizes the potential of high-quality preschool to reduce the academic achievement gap in Seattle’s K-12 schools. I’m grateful for their decision and look forward to our continuing partnership with the District as this program expands in the years ahead.

“Our littlest learners will leave the Seattle Preschool Program better prepared for elementary school than ever before. Now with SPS as a classroom partner, I’m hopeful that children will have a seamless transition from preschool to kindergarten.”
