No, not that kind of joint. This joint is about performance.
It’s Nights at the Neptune: A People’s Theatre Joint, produced by Seattle Theatre Group (STG), the non-profit arts organization running the Paramount, Moore and Neptune theatres. The series will be held at the historic Neptune Theatre in the University District featuring 8 projects to be presented between June 25 & September 17, 2013. It’s free and supported by the Seattle Department of Neighborhoods.
Selected performances represent art created and performed by some of the city’s most innovative artists and include comedy, new plays, dance theatre, film, cultural music, and hip-hop. A People’s Theatre Joint gives voice to under-served populations and explores issues on race and social justice – a performance series by the people and for the people.
STG engaged a group of local artists, arts managers, and community leaders to select the artists while keeping in mind the following criteria: presenting artists or organizations must be based in Seattle; artistic significance; capacity to complete their presentation; draw participants from traditionally under-served populations; engage the University District neighborhood, the vicinity of The Neptune Theatre and the Seattle region; and include issues relating to race, social justice, youth, or marginalized populations.
The series runs now through September 17th. Click here for the schedule.
