Seattle City Council committee advances appointment of Angelique Davis to Civil Service Commission
The Seattle City Council Government Performance and Finance Committee voted today to appoint Angelique Davis, a Seattle University professor and former Assistant City Attorney, to the City’s Civil Service Commission. The Full Council will vote on her appointment at its last meeting of the year on Monday, Dec. 17.
“Ms. Davis will bring a strong knowledge of employment law and a keen sense of what is fair to this important commission,” said Councilmember Tim Burgess, chair of the Council’s Government Performance and Finance Committee. “Our city employees will benefit from her expertise and judgment as a commissioner.”
Since 2005, Angelique Davis has been a full-time professor in Seattle University’s Political Science Department. She also directs the Pre-law Program at the university and is an affiliated faculty member in the Global African Studies Program. Before entering academia, she practiced labor and employment law for a number of years as an associate with a private law firm and then as an Assistant City Attorney for the City of Seattle’s Employment Section.
Davis earned a bachelor’s degree in Law and Diversity from Western Washington University and a juris doctorate from the University of Washington School of Law.
