This morning, it was my honor to join civic and business to announce that the Rock ‘n’ Roll Seattle Marathon (which benefits the American Cancer Society) will, for the first time, start and finish at Seattle Center. This marathon and half-marathon is on par with some of the best, most respected running events in the nation. And, on Saturday, June 23rd, it will bring 26,000 runners to Seattle Center, infusing the campus with energy and providing a boost to our local economy.
This is a great opportunity for Seattle to showcase Seattle Center, as the marathon coincides with the Center’s Next Fifty program — honoring the 50th anniversary of the the World’s Fair. As an ambassador of the Next Fifty program, I am excited about an event that will bring thousands to our city’s hub and that promotes the health and wellness of everyone in our city.
