Home » Seattle Music Coming to Sea-Tac Airport

This Saturday, January 28 Sea-Tac Airport will launch the Sea-Tac Music Initiative, showcasing local music and musicians at Sea-Tac Airport. The kickoff features live music from 3-7 p.m. at the Gina Marie Lindsey Arrival Hall, at the south end of the baggage claim area.

This new initiative produced is produced in collaboration with the Seattle Music Commission, and features:

  • Overhead safety and information announcements featuring local musicians including Ben Gibbard, LeRoy Bell, Macklemore, Jerry Cantrell and Six Mix-A-Lot
  • Overhead music featuring local artists
  • Video segments on CNN monitors throughout the airport feature original content from  KEXP, EMP, the Seattle Channel’s Art Zone, and others
  • A web-based multi-channel music player available via the airport’s free WiFi

I will provide remarks at the start along with Mayor Mike McGinn, Port Commissioner John Creighton, and the Seattle Music Commission. Then the fun begins with live performances until 7 p.m. by these Seattle artists:

In addition, Sound Transit’s light rail from Seattle to Sea-Tac Airport will feature live music from 1-6 p.m.

The City Council passed an agreement with the Port of Seattle in December, 2011 to help set this up. The Seattle Music Commission was created by the City Council in January, 2010 in Resolution 31173. This dynamic, hands-on commission has spearheaded work on this project to help accomplish the goals outlined in the City of Music vision created by the Office of Film and Music, in collaboration with the local music community, and passed by the City Council.

Earlier this week, the Music Commission presented their 2010-1 Annual Report and 2011-2 Work Plan on Wednesday, January 25 in the Housing, Human Services, Health and Culture committee of the City Council that I chair.
