Seattle City Council President commends WSDOT as the Alaskan Way Viaduct replacement project continues forward
Federal Highway Administration signs record of decision

Seattle – City Council President Richard Conlin released the statement below in support of the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT), following federal approval on the Alaskan Way Viaduct replacement project’s record of decision. This approval completes the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) process, allowing construction to continue forward.

"This critical step has been a long time coming.  After more than 10 years of working with our regional partners to find the best replacement for the Alaskan Way Viaduct, today’s action by the Federal Highway Administration is the official ‘go-ahead’ to move this project into construction.

"We look forward to continuing the relationship between WSDOT and the City. The City Council is committed to protecting the City’s interests and working to improve safety and mobility through downtown Seattle while creating a dazzling waterfront that the people of Seattle will cherish and enjoy."
