SEATTLE – Councilmember Teresa Mosqueda (Position 8, Citywide) received the Oath of Office earlier today in Council Chambers following the certification of the 2017 election results by King County Elections.
Mosqueda joins the Council after more than a decade of effectively advocating for workers rights and immigrants and refugees. She is best known for the work she did writing and managing the statewide sick leave and minimum wage initiative, 1433 that passed in 2016, a policy that had broad labor and small business support. Before that, she led the successful implementation of Apple Health for Kids, ensuring that sure that all children in Washington state have access to the healthcare they need.
Mosqueda is a third-generation Mexican-American. She is a renter in the Queen Anne neighborhood.

Council Position 8 fills the at-large position vacated in September when then-Councilmember Tim Burgess who was sworn in as Mayor of Seattle. On October 6, Councilmember Kirsten Harris-Talley was appointed to fill the seat until the elections had been certified.
