Earlier today Seattle city officials were briefed on the updated economic and revenue forecast for October. In response to more optimistic updated numbers, including an estimated $14.6 million in additional revenue in 2026 compared to the August forecast, Council President Sara Nelson (Position 9) released the following statement:
“Based on today’s revenue forecast briefing, I’m cautiously optimistic. However, uncertainty remains in Seattle due to tariffs and potential federal funding cuts. As the Council works through the budget process, I urge my colleagues to join me in protecting essential city services that our diverse communities rely on every day. We must approach this budget with an eye towards sustainability, given the current unpredictability of the local economy.
“My top budget priorities will continue to be expanding on-demand drug treatment services, supporting our small businesses and boosting economic growth and building on our progress on public safety.”
