I am deeply saddened by the news that my friend and colleague Councilmember Tammy Morales will be leaving the council. Councilmember Morales has been a beacon of progressive values, tirelessly championing the rights of workers, families, renters, transit riders, and all who live and work in Seattle. I respect her decision to do what is best for her personally, her team, and her family.
It’s been said that love in action is service. Councilmember Morales’ love for District 2, the south end, and Seattle as a whole, drove her every action, policy, and vote. I want to thank Councilmember Morales for her service and dedication to the people of Seattle, and for showing us all how a representative can show up as her whole self on behalf of the whole district and our shared community.
District 2 deserves strong leadership and a true champion, as Councilmember Morales has consistently delivered. As one of the at-large city councilmembers, I’m committed to spending additional dedicated time in District 2 during this transition to support community dialogue and ensure that we champion District 2’s needs at City Hall.
Thank you for your service, Councilmember Morales.
Onward together,
Alexis Mercedes Rinck
