Final vote by full council expected Thursday
The Seattle City Council’s Select Budget Committee, chaired by Councilmember Dan Strauss (District 6), will meet for the final time tomorrow to take its final votes on the 2025-26 budget and related legislation, such as proposed changes to the JumpStart Payroll Expense Tax and a capital gains tax proposal.
An additional public comment period has been added for tomorrow, Tuesday, Nov. 19.
Several amendments to the JumpStart Payroll Expense Tax legislation have been proposed since the public hearing last week. In response, Chair Strauss has added an additional public comment period at the start of tomorrow’s committee meeting at 9:30 a.m. to hear from community members.
This is in addition to the four other public comment periods and two five-hour-plus public hearings the Select Budget Committee has hosted since the Mayor released his budget proposal.

People can participate either in person at Seattle City Hall or remotely. In-person participants can use sign-up sheets at the front of Council Chambers to register to speak. People participating remotely should follow the instructions on this webpage.
Background
Mayor Bruce Harrell transmitted his proposed budget to the Seattle City Council on Sept. 24. Since then, the Council’s Select Budget Committee, chaired by Councilmember Strauss, has been leading the Council’s process for reviewing and amending that proposal.

What’s next
Following the votes of the Select Budget Committee tomorrow, the full Council is expected to meet on Thursday, Nov. 21, to take final votes on the 2025-26 budget and accompanying legislation.
