Seattle City Councilmember Dan Strauss(District 6), Chair of the Select Budget Committee, issued the following statement after Mayor Bruce Harrell released his proposal for the City of Seattle’s 2025-2026 budget:
“I want to thank Mayor Bruce Harrell and his team for their work. Now, it’s time for City Council to roll up our sleeves to review, examine, amend, and pass the 2025 budget.
“As Budget Chair, I look forward to leading a transparent and collaborative process. It’s crucial that we center both fiscal responsibility and prioritize the investments the people of our city depend on — improving public safety, creating affordable housing, and addressing homelessness. We can and we must do both.”
Background
Budget Chair Strauss will lead the Council’s budget process this fall. Under his leadership, the Select Budget Committee has been meeting since April to prepare for this fall budget season — five months earlier than normal.
The Select Budget Committee will host its first meeting of the fall budget process tomorrow at 9:30 AM. During that meeting the committee will get an overview of the mayor’s budget proposal from the City Budget Office. Final action on the budget is scheduled for November.
More information about the Budget Committee’s schedule and how the community can make their voice heard can be found at the Council’s Demystifying the Budget Process webpage.
