Councilmember Sally Bagshaw (District 7, Pioneer Square to Magnolia), Chair of the Council’s Human Services and Public Safety, issued the following statement following Mayor Murray’s announcement of forthcoming investments in human services:

“Everyone deserves a stable place to call home. I am thrilled that the Mayor has announced today his decision to open four new safe encampments and demonstrated his commitment to improving Seattle’s resources for people experiencing homelessness. I am particularly pleased to hear that the City will expand low-barrier shelter options, including the Navigation Center, and invest in an interim strategy to care for people while we make necessary changes to our homeless services system. I look forward to working closely with the Mayor to make this plan a reality.

“I will be hosting Mayor’s Office representatives at my Human Services and Public Health Committee at 9:30 a.m. Friday where we will discuss this plan further.”
