Councilmember M. Lorena González (Position 9, Citywide) issued the following statement following the federal government’s announcement that it will rescind the Deferred Action for Parents of Americans (DAPA) policy, which would have offered protection to undocumented parents of children who are lawful permanent residents or U.S. citizens had it gone into effect:

“Trump thinks that he can fool the country by upholding DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) while rescinding DAPA in the very same day. None of us are fooled. His agenda remains the arbitrary separation of immigrant families and we will not stand for it. I encourage DACA recipients to review the updated guidelines from trusted community organizations like the Northwest Immigrant Rights Project and remain vigilant in our fight for a world where immigrants’ contributions to this country are properly valued.”
