The Seattle Police Department Seattle Crime News blog has an informative post about Initiative 502, which Washington state voters passed in last week’s General Election.

As the post notes, under I-502, as of December 6 it will no longer be a violation of state law for adults 21 or over to possess up to an ounce of marijuana. In addition, the initiative established a one-year period for the state to develop licensing for marijuana production and sale.

The blog post explains the current legal situation in Washington state, how the Seattle Police Department plans to adapt to the passage of I-502, and federal law, under which marijuana is classified as a schedule 1 controlled substance.
