Public Safety Committee: Job Assistance Legislation and
Office of Professional Accountability Director

SeattleAt tomorrow’s Public Safety, Civil Rights and Technology Committee meeting,Councilmember Bruce Harrell will discuss legislation to increase public safety and job assistance through the reduction of criminal recidivism and why it is critical to improve the re-entry experience for those who have committed crimes and are rehabilitated.

The second agenda item will introduce the appointment process for Kathryn Olson, Director of the Office of Professional Accountability. The committee has made it clear that reconfirmation of the director will not be taken lightly, the process will be thorough, and achievements as well as deficiencies will be analyzed. Significant outreach to community members, civil rights organizations, law organizations and police organizations will be conducted in order to assist in the process of deciding whether or not to confirm. This committee discussion will focus on the community process and timeline. The official public hearing on Olson’s appointment will be scheduled at an upcoming Public Safety, Civil Rights, and Technology committee meeting.
